Roads under the control of Local Governments are a critical part of the supply chain for many industries.  Road freight in WA almost doubled in the ten years to 2015 and is forecast to continue to grow significantly more quickly than population.  Road design requirements and the rate of road wear are influenced by the number and types of heavy vehicles using the road.

While trucks are recognised as essential to economic prosperity, community concerns regarding safety, noise and other pollution need to be addressed. Local Governments are working together and with industry to deliver safe, efficient road networks to meet the needs of industry and communities.
