Issue 38

In this issue...

Supplier Group Request
WALGA has been approached by a group representing various supplier segments requesting that the sector postpone requests for tender/quote during the period of Friday, 17 December to Wednesday, 5 January, 2022.
WALGA has explained that the Association does not have a statutory or regulatory role with Local Government and that participation with the Preferred Supplier Program is voluntary.

Consequently, WALGA committed to pass on the request so to allow each Local Government to determine their operating preference, as is appropriate.
For more information, email Executive Manager, Commercial and Communications, Zac Donovan.

WALGA Family and Domestic Violence Leave Survey
WALGA is seeking feedback from WA Local Governments to inform a submission to the Fair Work Commission (FWC) on the Family and Domestic Violence Leave (FDVL) Review.
The survey closes 5:00pm, Friday, 8 October. To complete the survey, please click here.

The FWC FDVL Review focuses on the following issues:
  1. whether employees should be able to access paid personal/carer’s leave for the purpose of taking FDVL
  2. the adequacy of the unpaid FDVL entitlement, and
  3. Whether provisions should be made for paid FDVL.
Several parties (including the Australian Council of Trade Unions) have made submissions to the FDVL Review to vary modern awards to include 10 days’ paid FDVL. Currently the National Employment Standards contain an entitlement to five days’ unpaid FDVL.

Feedback from Local Government will determine the advocacy position that WALGA should take in its submission to the FWC on behalf of WA Local Governments.
For more information, email the Employee Relations Team or call 1300 366 956.
