With a range of flexible courses to choose from, including a qualification specifically developed to meet the needs of Elected Members in Western Australia, there are a variety of ways to maintain and develop your professional capabilities.

*The Diploma of Local Government (Elected Member) 52756WA Qualification is currently in a teach-out period while WALGA Training develops the newly endorsed Diploma of Local Government (Elected Member) LGA50220.

The Council Member Essentials training is delivered in five course modules. Each module focuses on a different topic, building the skills required of Councillors in a step-by-step approach, filled with practical tips and tools for Councillors to perform their role and responsibility as defined in the  Local Government Act 1995.
This program aims to guide Mayors and Presidents on their role and responsibilities and provides an insight on how to be a successful community leader through effective communication, speaking on behalf of the Council, presiding at meetings and mentoring Elected Members.
