The WA Local Government Association (WALGA) is committed to protecting user privacy. WALGA understands and appreciates that visitors and users of this website are concerned about their privacy and the confidentiality and security of any information that may be provided to WALGA.

Collection and Use of Your Personal Information
WALGA records the personal information that you provide to us voluntarily, for example when you:
  1. fill in a conference, seminar or training registration form
  2. Diploma of Local Government (Elected Member) enrolment form
  3. subscribe to a WALGA publication, or
  4. apply for a job.
WALGA will tell you why it is collecting personal information and how WALGA plans to use it or these things will be obvious when the information is collected. Generally we will not disclose your personal information other than to parties who have contracted with WALGA to provide administrative services or activities on WALGA's behalf. Usually we require these parties to protect the privacy of your personal information in the same way as we do.

We also usually prepare and distribute to each attendee at each WALGA conference/seminar a list of the names of the persons who have registered to attend the conference/seminar and the Council or other organisation they represent (if applicable).

WALGA only collects personal information where the collection of the personal information is lawful and necessary or related to the functions of WALGA. Where WALGA collects information it will not do so in a manner which is unfair or unreasonably intrusive. The personal information collected by WALGA will not be used or disclosed for any purpose other than the purpose for which it was collected without the consent of a person who provided that information.
 
WALGA records your e-mail address if you send it to us in a message to us. It will only be used for the purpose for which you have provided it and will not be added to any external mailing lists. We will not use your e-mail address for any other purpose, and will not disclose it, without your consent.
 
Collection of Information on Web Site Activity
For statistical purposes, we collect information on website activity (such as the number of users who visit the website, the date and time of the visits, the number of pages viewed and navigation patterns) through the use of “cookies” and registered user data. This information provides us with statistics that we can use to analyse and improve our website. Cookies allow computers to identify and interact more effectively. Most internet browsers are set up to accept cookies. If you do not wish to receive cookies, you may be able to change the settings of your browser to refuse all cookies or to notify you each time a cookie is sent to your computer, giving you the choice whether to accept it or not.
 
WALGA uses a variety of physical and electronic security measures including restricting physical access to its offices, firewalls and secure databases to keep personal information secure from misuse, loss or unauthorised use or disclosure. The internet is not a secure environment. If you use the internet to send WALGA any information, including your email address, it is sent at your own risk.

Online payments
WALGA offers on-line payment facilities for events and training services.

Our Events and Training systems will each divert online payments to our payment gateway service provider where credit card transactions will be processed securely but no card details will be stored.

WALGA's events and training software do not process or store any credit card information.

Personal Information – Access and Accuracy
You have the right to access most personal information WALGA holds about you. If you want to access your information or alternatively if you have a complaint concerning your information privacy please direct your query in writing to – Chief Executive Officer, WALGA, PO Box 1544, West Perth WA 6872. You are allowed to inspect all personal information held by us about you, take notes about or obtain copies of the information. WALGA may deny your request for access to personal information in some circumstances but if we do this then we will tell you why. WALGA may charge a fee for supplying the personal information.
 
It is important that the personal information we collect from you is accurate, complete and up to date. You can contact us at any time to update your personal information or to tell us that the information we hold about you is inaccurate or incomplete.
 
Wherever it is lawful and practicable to do so, WALGA will offer you the opportunity to deal with us anonymously.
 
Sensitive Information
If personal information concerns particular topics it is regarded as "sensitive information", for example, information about your racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs or health. WALGA only collects, uses or discloses sensitive information about you as is allowed by law, for example, where we have received your consent to do so.
